Longshaw Farm Match Lake

Heyy all, late write up for me as I usually finish a session and post straight after, however my mobile data decided to die on me so I couldn’t post a thread. Anyways, down at the match lake for 8:10 fished through till 2. I had probably 30 fish roughly, most were small commons between 12oz and 2lb. Had a few decent fish to around 6-7lb which was very pleasing. The swim was nice and open with inviting margins.

the first fish of the day was this gorgeous mirror which are quite rare in this lake. I proceeded to catch a lot of small commons before my grandpa landed a 2-3lb goldfish!!!!

after that action, I landed a very decent common at around 7lbs.
My grandpa then followed that up with an extremely long common which was nearly as long as the unhooking mat. The last fish of the day was a ghost carp and one I had been trying to catch the entire day.

tackle of the day was a 13ft Shimano Aero X1 with a Preston inertia 320 with 5lb line and a 4lb hooklink. The Aero x1 handled all of the fish incredibly well.

Also another thing that seemed odd was that the carp were all at the surface throughout the majority of the time I was there. There were periods where they would be on the bottom, but most of the time they were on the surface with their mouths open at the surface kinda gasping but it wasn’t all the time. I do remember it being quite warm yesterday around 18 degrees and I assume the day before was colder so they decided to come up in the layers.

If you're going again soon before it get cool take some bread and try catching them off of the surface?

Not allowed to sadly, some of my bites came from flicking a bait directly into a carps path which got me a few bites. Sometimes as I lowered the rig down, one would come up and snaffle it straight away.
