Can anyone give me an idea as to what line BS you use with what rod test curve? There used to be a quick calculation to work out the maximum and minumum breaking strains but I can't remember it

Cheers,

Dick Walker always used the following.... Multiply the test curve by 3 for the minimum and by 6 for the maximum line strength. This could also be applied to the casting weight BUT by changing pounds to ounces. The carbon rods of today have a greater tolerance so line strengths can be upped some what.

chill out go fishing

Thanks John the reason for my asking is that I'm going to fill a spool up for catfishing on Saturday night but my heaviest rod other than a pier/boat rod is 2.5lb test curve and it would be pointless to go too heavy if the rod couldn't take it.

Judging by that I'd say 15lb max but could push it to 20lb as a safe bet
