Fish a pool yesteday, could not get a carp take on white line, fishing paste close in on the float, changed to brown line and caught straight away, and for the rest of the day, what do you think ? coincidence or not,

IMO not...

carp are not stupid, its suprising what minor changes you make to catch...

No not at all, i've sat fishless until i've changed hook size and line diameter and its been a fish a chuck and like the previous poster said "Unlike common carp carp are'nt stupid" or have mixed up his words let me just check.........no spot on i think[:D][:T]

Not surprising if you saw the underwater filming of barbel shown on Tight Lines by Bob Roberts a few months ago.

It showed barbel being spooked by bumping into "invisible" line. However when a visible line was used the barbel were quite happy to touch it and move around it to take the bait.

The theory is that touching something they can't see scares them but when they can see the line they expect the sensation of touching it and aren't spooked. Just think how you react when you brush into spider silk you didn't see.
