I was going to have a weekend of prepping for the Frenzee festival, that had been the plan for ages, so hadn’t booked a match this weekend. Now the festival is (quite rightly) cancelled, I have booked into a match tomorrow, they are taking the precautions most fisheries are, but I have a feeling this may well be the last match I fish for a while, I would not be surprised to see us in lockdown in the next few days.

I feel for all, the fisheries that do such a great job of putting up with us moaning match anglers, running matches, sorting bait and generally ensuring our days fishing is a good experience. Some of these fishery owners I have known a long time, are friends and I sincerely hope this situation is of short enough duration that they can use the time to do maintenance and keep themselves safe, so they can reopen when the time comes.

A lot of people and businesses are going to suffer over the next few weeks/months. Let's all do our bit and try to ensure it is weeks and not months.

The way I see it the country is slowly but surely closing down, probably deliberate by the government as an announcement saying as from Monday we will be on lock down would induce a lot of panic, so better to do it gradually, by next weekend I can see there only being food shops and chemists open for business

First off, got up this morning and rang my travelling partner to say I thought it best to go in separate vans, so no socialising and putting the world to rights on the way down.

Well, a beautiful day, sunshine day, not a loud in the sky. Venue, Trinity Waters. Drew peg 12, not a bad peg, so happy to give it a go and think there maybe a chance.

10:15-16:15 fishing, simple rigs in about 9’ of water, one for soft pellet, one for banded pellet and one for lb skimmer 10 minutes in, happy with that. Not another bite until 15:10, when I started feeding micros and maggots in the margin. 4 maggots on the hook saw 4 carp, a tench and another skimmer netted in 30 minutes, then lost a big common (15lb) that seemed to put the mockers on it.

38.01 was the result of my toil, the lost fish didn’t cost me as peg 28 weighed 59.08, leaving me second, so an envelope and went home dry for a change.

Not sure if that’s the end of matches, more and more seem to be being cancelled and I won’t complain, even though it looks like I will miss my favourite time for fishing commercials, spring.
