Well last day of the season for rivers that is!
I had the afternoon on the R.Don at Kilnurst,
the river looked reasonably good,
the weather a nice spring like sunny afternoon
but with a cutting cold breeze,
this was not going to be a red letter day for fishing
but just one those things you know you have to do
because its a long 3 months to june 16th,
Travelling light just a feeder rod etc, I settled down
on peg 16 with the rod already pre-set up i started
fishing maggot feeder double maggot hook bait,
after an hour i had my first bite a chub of 1lbs,
I then sat another 2 hours with no indications
or signs of a fish and that cold breeze was starting
to make me question whether i would be better off
going home for my tea,
Then a slow pull round on the tip! and with the speed
of a strikeing cobra i had the rod off its rest and
the fight was on, after a couple of minutes i had my
first glimpse of pure white flanks and big rubber mouth,
as it broke the surface the fight was over very quick,
and there it laid in the current,
i could see it was only lightly hooked and as i slid it
over the surface to-wards me it came off,
What was it? Condomus~Condomus
commonly known as jonny or rubber
