Here's ten films that have given me a bit of an insight. I used to watch a lot more old Japanese films. Kurosawa, Mizoguchi etc even saw some Ozu films at the cinema, but they're a bit dreary, kind of housewife dramas but critically acclaimed.

Black Rain
Lost in Translation
Sans Soleil
Tokyo Ga
Woman In The Dunes
Ugetsu
Seven Samurai
Pale Flower
Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence
The Bridge Over the River Kwai
Merry Christmas mr Lawrence ❤

I know quotes from Monkey Magic and know the title of The Water Margin without having seen them as they got sampled or had tunes named after them.

This time 2 years ago, I was living there. Loved it, learnt a lot, spent a lot. I'm well travelled, and to be fair, Japan is very unique.
