A conman has been sentenced to eight years in jail for possessing a stolen Shakespeare first edition and taking it abroad. The four hundred year old book went missing from Durham University twelve years ago. The judge said Raymond Scott had concocted an 'elaborate scam'.

Then this.
A body builder ex boxer fueled on drink and cocaine killed a serving soldier with one punch, and knocking out the soldiers wife.

The soldier had survived tour of duties to Iraq, Bosnia and Afhanistan, only to be murdered by a thug in Newcastle.
The murders sentence ?? 5 FRIGGING YEARS, yes 5 FRIGGING YEARS, for taking a mans life and leaving a child without her father, a woman without her husband and a family without their loved one.

Justice, a frigging mockery of justice[!][!][!][!]

Not saying I agree with the sentencing, but your last sentence provides the reason.

Murder by definition is a premeditated/planned crime.

I would imagine that the worst the thug was charged with was manslaughter or unlawful killing.

Andy, do you have an article or anything relating to the incident? Would be interested to see just what it says, whether it was a cold blooded attack or whether the guy was provoked.

A man has been jailed for killing a soldier from Pembrokeshire in a "cowardly and unprovoked attack" outside a Newcastle nightclub.

Michael Ridley assaulted Staff Sgt Chris Chacksfield, 31, outside Babylon 90 in Newgate Street on 31 May.

The 22-year-old, from Newcastle, was jailed for five years after admitting manslaughter and grievous bodily harm.

he killed a man plain and simple

about time the country went back to the old days of the laws regarding theft,killing etc

As you will see, the maximum sentence for manslaughter is life imprisonment, the same as for murder.


5 years seems insufficient. He will do only 3 years and 9 months minus a day for every day on remand or in police custody AFTER the sentence reduction, making them effectively worth two days off for each.



I doubt he'll do 3 years [:0]

i do believe that for as far back as i can remember the theft of valuables has always been viewed by the judiciary as far more serious than the taking of a life.sad isnt it ?
