I have caught bigger fish and more big bags of stamp fish from more challenging venues. Worked to improve my river fishing especially on the float, honourable mention for @HALTON DANGLER who’s videos on stick float and bolo floats have helped far more than reading books and articles.

Also taking tips and techniques from one discipline and finding ways to apply them to other areas of angling. I took distance sticks for accuracy and spodding from carp fishing and use both in my long range feeder fishing for bream and silvers.

Small PVA nuggets of pellets when fishing the bomb and pellet beyond catapult range.

One thing that has changed since I used to fish is the prevalence of F1s. I thought for a while they were just like Carp but a bit shyer, turns out the more I read the more makes sense in how different specialised tactics for them can be.

Despite reading articles and watching you tube,my commercial fishing has not improved one iota,i have no lack of tackle, just lack of a winning mentality, and too idle to put the extra effort in when needed.

Sounds like you are putting off a decision, or just maybe need a break. I loved competitions and always did well in them. Pitting myself against better opponents brought out the best in me. I didn't always win, but I did come close many times and won more than I lost. Now I just relax and enjoy myself which for me is what competing was always about - getting a buzz out of taking part
