I took poorly last week. I got up for work on Wednesday and went downstairs to put the kettle on, as usual, only this time I had to sit down for 5 minutes to get my breath back and I had sharp pains in my upper back. I had not felt quite right for a couple of days but assumed that I was just coming down with a cold; my missus looked at me and said "you are not going in today, make an appointment with the Doctor", Reluctantly I agreed. At the Docs I was diagnosed with Pleurisy, given antibiotics and told to stay off work for a couple of weeks, I declined the sick note saying that I was pretty resilliant and would be fine in a couple of days. She then gave me cause to think when she said "if the pains in your back move round to your chest don't waste time coming back here, call an Ambulance straight away". I was determined to be back at work on Monday but, here I am, still off and not expecting to get back until Thursday.

As little as 20 years ago I wouldn't have even bothered going to the Docs, never mind staying off work for a week! I HATE OLD AGE:mad::mad::mad:

When I was in my 30's I tried bunking off nights for a couple of days... told me boss I had a pain in my chest and coughing... "pain in ye chest lad? Best get you to hospital" he knew I was scamming but I went and they hooked me up to an ECG the doc said. "Hmmm you have a heart murmur, don't go back to work till you've seen a specialist... 10 weeks later I saw the cardiologist and he gave me the all clear... still get the odd hammering in my chest but I can live with it... the hard bit is the bolloxed back and knees.. they hurt and yes... at 61 I'm starting to feel less robust than I used to... but as long as I can carry my gear and fish I'm happy

I am 75 and still think my self young. I still go on club work parties. If you think old you will be old. And the next stage is death.

I too wonder about advancing years

but when I sit back with the few good mates and we chat about what we got up to before we managed to reach here and now, I realise, Ive been lucky, very lucky, circumstance could of been so different

quite a few never made it this far, one in particular hit me very hard just lately

be thankful for what you have, the ones you love and the pups that give thier love to you

I spent most of my life living in Dublin and moved down to Wexford about 20 odd years ago. These days most of the news I get from Dublin is to tell me about someone who has died. I am amazed at the number of people I went to school with or grew up with who have died. It really makes you think !
