HOW SAFE DO YOU FEEL IN YOUR OWN TOWN /CITY

how safe do you feel in your own town/city ? would you walk around alone after dark ? is there places you wouldn't walk around?
for me personally , i feel i know most scumbags about enough to not have any problems ( i was once a massive scumbag) i don't fear anyone in my town even the total rubbish id walk anywhere anytime, but i know people who wouldn't venture out in certain places or certain times , how is it in your area ?
i was stopped at 130am in the morning a couple of days ago by two nice coppers ,they asked what i was doing walking around at that time , i work permanent nights and am on holiday at the moment so my body clock is all out of wak so i decided to go for a walk around , i can handle myself in most situations , and like i said i grew up as one of the undesirables so im quite well known in my town, the coppers were like you gonna run into trouble walking around at this time ............. meh

Plenty of places where i wouldn't walk on my at own at night but maybe that's an age thing now as 20yrs ago i would have given a different answer.

I must say i don't particularly enjoy going into town much any more either.

It just seems to have more than it's fair share of junkies and thieves and that's all nationalities.

ya know if you think about it ,the coppers were basicaly saying the town we police can not be controlled and you are gonna get beaten if you venture out in the early hours , to me thats bad

Being as I live out in the sticks more or less, that problem doesn't really exist here. The nearest town or city is an hour away by bus. We do have our idiots but turn and face them and they back off. It's no bother to go to the cash machine at 2am, or come home from the pub late at night. Go into the next village at night though and it's a different story.

Where I live is a decent part of Wirral so no problem.
Over the water...Liverpool City Centre, again..I feel fine.
Down town Birkenhead, back over this side of the Mersey - not a chance. Horrible place these days.

Thankfully the only thing I have to worry about when walking at night is treading in dog 5hit. Being quite a rural area people think it acceptable to let dogs off leads and rubbish everywhere.

funny you should say that ,i was loadinjg my gear into my car at 5 30am on monday and some bloke walked past with ( i think a rottweiler ) it did the biggest s**t i have ever seen on the pavement , ( imagine king kongs finger ) i was fuming , so i asked him if he was gonna pick it up , he said hes a big lad , and hes allreadsy done 3 dumps on this walk and ive no bags left , 'report me ' .......................i would but ive no idea who he is lol

We live out in the country so dont tend to see anyone other than the odd Bradly Wiggins lookalike. Well, middle aged overweight blokes in lycra that is. I dont think thieves and scrotes can be bothered coming this far out. What youve to remember though is most folk out here have the odd shotgun or three. ???

Feel pretty safe up here- police don't seem to have much to deal with apart from the occasional drunk late at night. One of the bars in the town has a bit of an iffy reputation locally but I've been in it a couple of times, its not too friendly but not actually hostile either, just the sort of place where darts stop in midair when a stranger walks in.
I live just across from a small park and very occasionally get the traditional kids/swings/vodka combination but they're harmless and the police keep an eye on it.
Nearest city is Inverness which seems to have an increasing drug problem over the last few years and the centre can get a bit dodgy on a Saturday night, like most places I suppose. Certainly a few places there where I wouldn't feel comfortable, and the city has the highest number of Big Issue sellers per acre that I've seen anywhere

I live out in the country but Buxton is pretty tame generally. People come here to retire. We’ve got the usual chavvy council estate and two nightclubs so there is the odd bit of agro but I’m certainly not afraid to go out.

I live in Bradford and wouldn’t go in to town drinking in the nightclubs these days full of foreigners that’d stab you as soon as look at you.
Saturday through the day is a laugh when the football is on and I’m out with the lads now and again for a pre match pi$$ up and strangely enough there’s no sign of Jonny foreigner either
But round the estate where I grew up I’m fine and would go out at any time of night or day

I moved away from the England a few years ago and would never go back. I now travel between my 4 homes. In winter I live Florida and Singapore and In summer I live in Jersey and Sweden. Everywhere I live now is safe I can go anywhere at anytime and the children are safe. Singapore is awesome for many reasons such as the banning of chewing gum. The place is totally litter free and you could eat your dinner on the floors. Hanging around in crowds is banned and if you are caught spitting the fines are hefty. Of course corporal and capital punishments still apply.

Croydon is possibly the biggest khasi in the country, full of foreigners, but surprisingly if I had to choose between the 2 for a night out, it would be Croydon, yes its a massive ethnic toilet, but they don't hassle you, sutton though is full of home grown pi55ed up chavs who wouldn't think twice about trying it on for no reason.

Lived in Uxbridge before I moved up here, stepkids now live in Hounslow which is a very Asian area. Feel a lot warier when walking around Uxbridge with the abovementioned pi55ed and coked up chavs around (on the downside, the bars in Hounslow are uniformly rotten).

I seem to remember someone telling me that the only time he'd ever locked his pick up doors while driving was as he drove through a certain area south of the Thames when he came down to visit me.

Brixton at 10:30pm stuck in a queue of traffic with an open bed pickup full of fishing tackle and being surrounded by groups of beer can swilling blokes all having a look-see to see what I was carrying - yeap that was one place/situation which resulted in me locking the doors lol

The tackle was secure, it was chained down, but all the same it was a bit like rocking up with an open safe full of ten pound notes

Yep, i can walk anywhere in my area without worry, always get friendly hellos etc from the Polish and Lithuanians as they go about their business, those with Asian heritage are all friendly enough, apart from one or two of the wannabe talibans, leave the estate and head anywhere in my town and i feel safe, occasional baghead, dust freak or pothead trying to be a gangster but they normally walk off or scurry back to their little caves.

No worries for me or any of my family where ever we go, there's always more friendly than sewer rats, even had one old timer escort my daughter past all the knobhead football fans chanting their stupid songs and jumping around outside the railway station.
