How many times a year do you actually fish?

Thanks for the reply.

... I need something positive to focus upon.
That positivity will come and, I am sure is different for each of us in such circumstances. For me, it continues to be two major things (there are other factors too) Firstly the memory of my stepson who introduced me to course fishing over 30 years ago. David passed in 2002 and every time I get bankside, I think of him and the terrific times we had together. The other reason is my constant love affair and affinity with natural environments. More so with rivers and lakes than I think with commercial waters, largely, I think, due to the fact that those two venues were regularly the first venues I fished. Seeing swallows, and sand martins at sunset, kingfishers, swans and all water dependant species still gives me the same thrill. Also gratifying is the presence of wildlife at commercial venues too, even though the adventuresome aspect of the fishing may not always be so challenging for someone who regards angling as a hobby rather than a sport.
Good fortune and may you eventually find the peace and tranquillity that angling always brings to me

Unfortunately very few, often work or shoot weekends and when I can mange a few hours I like to have good gear.
I have what I call a specimen set up it's all Drennan specialist gear and I have a match/silver fish set up I love doing both
it all depends on my mood.

Trying to go once a week, but often once every two weeks.

Things that stopped me were life, ill parent, RIP Mum, getting myself a dog, and work commitments.

all those things are gone now. Trying to enjoy "my time" again.

Variable … currently I fish about 30-35 matches a season.
but in the past the most I’ve done was 70 in a nine month season (30 odd years ago!)
this year I’ve done a lot fewer evening sessions for fun, perhaps only 5 and the summer’s nearly gone!

Over a year would say I average twice a week but June/July may be every evening and in winter a full day during daylight once a weekend unless I have a day off work.
In the autumn/winter may have a few sessions a month on the beach tide/weather permitting.
But how do you measure time?
May have an hour lure fishing, a five hour match or 18 hour over night session?

Twice a week for me, right through the year whatever the weather, unless it's frozen. (i don't break the ice nowadays) Then I'll go to the coast for a bit of beachcasting.

I've just got back into fishing after an 18 month break... I suspect ill average 10-14 times a year, which drives me crazy and I suspect leads to the times I give up.

I have a complicated home life with a grown up adult autistic son. Weekends are a time for me to take over his care and give my Mrs a break - so not exactly condusive to a day away on the bank.

Since I restarted in May I've been using some holiday from work, but that is finite.

Even above that, the financial aspect comes into it.. A £15 day ticket plus Bait and petrol soon adds up.

Since the middle of May when I restarted I've been out 5 times 😭

May I suggest that you could save considerable money by joining a club that has water close to your home. Short journeys = less fuel, no day tickets adding up and you could do short sessions, early mornings and evenings. Hope this helps.

Cheers... The thing is there isn't really the club options close to me. I also find as my time is so limited, when I do get out I want to catch as much as I can and almost 'guarantee' as rewarding a day as possible - so for me right now, thst means commercials.

Thanks for the advice though 🙂

I've often thought about this, even more so if about to make a major purchase (don't panic, I'm not :) ), but how many times a year do you actually go fishing?

I tend to do it in spurts, I might go every weekend for a while, a bit of a splurge, then miss for several weekends. So on balance, taking winter into account, perhaps 25 days in the year

Maybe I need to take up golf, or retire :D
Myself I keep a blog and usually 60-70 sessions a year.

Pay around £650/annum on licences, memberships, permits for myself and missus...

Im definitely in the 100/125 times per year......

It's something like, 15 trips for Barbel, 10 to a lake for Carp, 15 trips at the caravan lake, 20 on the Trent normal feeder/float and 50 plus short sessions for Pike spinning.

Been 6 times this week alone, twice today for 2 separate short sessions. I covered the River Devon for 2 hrs then later this afternoon the local pond for an hour.

Working 4 on 4 off helps a lot, and having a very enthusiastic 12 yr old gets me out more.

Fished 3 times this year, 1 team match and 1 '2 day festival', might get out another 3-5 times before xmas!

The above is primarily my preference though this year as shy'd away from team fishing as cant compete with the guys fishing 3 days a week

Perversly I like to not go for a month or so then it builds my desire up again - If i go too often i get in a rut and dont enjoy quite as much. I need to make more effort to try different venues - Thats a desire giver !!
With kids and family i only sometimes get 3-4 hour sessions so reduced travel and being assured i know what to do at the venue is a big draw.
I maybe go 20 times a year but never counted !! :)

For me it depends on lots of things such as family and work commitments, last year I did not fish much as the early part of the year I was busy with work and only managed a couple of trips around easter then I tore a tendon in my arm and did not fish at all from about May to late August so all told last year I would have been lucky to have fished about 15 times . However this year work and family hasn't been so demanding, so have fished much more, the early part of the year the weather seemed to be against me whenever I made plans so probably only got out about half a dozen times from January till easter but after that I have averaged at least one trip per week (sometimes I have not been out but other weeks have managed a couple of mid week trips as well as the weekend) so this year up to now I have probably done around 50 trips although some of the sessions have been short 3 hour evening trips, I can see things slowing down a bit now towards the end of the year as work is going to be crazy over the next 2 months then the weather will start to play a part so by the end of this year I will probably be looking at something like 60 trips
