I currently have about 25. Mainly coarse rods but a couple of fly rods. I made a list the other day and in my angling life I have had over 120 rods.
Rods that are regularly used, less than 10.

Ideally I'd have:

Float rod
Feeder rod
2 Avon/all rounder (1.5-1.75tc) rods
Carp/pike rod
Spinning rod
Plus a couple of compact rods for when I don't have the car and want travel light

So maybe 8-10 rods would cover all my bases - this is in an ideal world where i don't need to buy replacements for the ones i don't like.

I've only got 5 & never use any of them.

A 13' match rod
11' pellet waggler
A Sigma Wand
A 9' Garbolino Rocket feeder
A Daiwa Jaguar feeder.

You’ve got a Sigma Wand and don’t use it ??? 😱😱😱😱

You lucky lad - it’s the one and only rod I wish I’d never ever parted with when I sold up all those years ago

Well current status off the top of my head is as follows in rough order of use

13ft drennan acolyte ultra float
14ft drennan acolyte ultra float
11ft drennan acolyte ultra feeder
11ft drennan 1.25tc twin tip duo
13ft cadence CR10 #1 float
10ft daiwa ninja float
8-9ft shimano ax stc 15-40g travel spin
6ft 6 6-15lb ugly stick travel spin
11ft rovex avon quiver travel
7ft 6 12-20lb daiwa saltist downtider
7ft 20-30 penn overseas pro travel
12ft daiwa Nzon power feeder
10ft Shakespeare Mach xt wand feeder
7ft 6 shimano vengenxe slim downtider
8ft korum snapper 7-12g spin
8-10ft tf gear compact allrounder
8ft 10-30g leeda icon spin

So that’s 17 but pretty sure I’ve got 20 in total just can’t recall the rest off the top of my head as they are proper obscure never used anymore stuff. Could get away with just having the first 10 or 11 of them and still do all that I do though.

Hmm, let's see.
Shakespeare X 2 12' 2.5 lb tc Carp/Pike rods
Drennan X-Tension 13' 1lb tc
Daiwa 13' 12oz tc
Darent Valley 11' 1lb tc
Darent Valley 11' 1.25lb tc
John Wilson 11' travel Avon
Mitchel 5.5' very light spinner (bought for LRF in Cornwall).
Penn 8' medium action spinner
Allcock's "Super Wizard" cane rod.
Hardy 7.5' 4/5 weight fly rod
Hardy 5.5' 2 weight fly rod
Zipplex X 2 2500 m beachcasters

14 rods that cover me for just about anything except boats. I don't do boats. I don't do pole(s) either.
Of them, the two Darent Valleys and the Drennan get the most work outs.

How often have you been asked that ?

I've just added a new rod to my armoury and whilst sorting out the rest I heard those immortal words... "How many rods do you need?"

"Just these, the ones downstairs, a couple in my office, oh and a few in the loft"

15 as it so happens lol
I and my other half have 60+ rod and reels all pre-tackled and ready to cast, only needing bait added.

Worst part of fishing is the tackling up and tackling down for me so that problem is eliminated... BUT still takes about 45 mins between arriving at the swim and actually making first cast due to baiting up, setting up seat, unhooking mat, landing net, rod rests, etc, etc....

I’ve got about 20 at the moment but I only really use my 9ft Garbolino Altima feeder and 10ft Altima float rod on a regular basis.

I also use my 2 Nash carp rods and a 9ft fly rod.

The rest just gather dust.

I loaded mine on to a spreadsheet, so I can just look at it now and again, add to (unlikely now), or take off if I sell one to finance another purchase. Alternately, I am quite likely to donate them to a charity for disabled kids keen on angling (have done in the past) or someone starting out. Sadly I have no local shop which facilitates used kit in good condition (It's how I started). Haven't sold any in a while. 4 of the 15 are of sentimental value, not used any more, but I will not part with them.

Morning Ian, when did you get the Barbel rods and any plans to use them this coming season ?

I’m tempting myself to a couple of deadbeat rods, plus I quite like the look of the atts alarms that would be needed with them depending on how I fish with the dead bait rods. Is this the slippery slope to bivvy buying 😱
