Ive bought 10 packets of ten No. 16 hooks on-line thinking they were spade ends but they are eyed hooks. I have a rig for tying my hooks so is it advisable to tie the hooks in the traditional method of tying eyed hooks or will it be ok to use the eye like a spade ( preferred method)

I personally wouldn’t as the eye isn’t usually soldered to the shank so you’ve got a sharp point that could potentially weaken your line or even cut it when under pressure from a fish.

If the eye is straight I can't see any reason why you can't whip them on, I've done so many times.

If line goes through eye after tying, cannot see any problem - it’s the same as a knot less knot.

I don't like passing the line through the eye unless the eye is bent. The reason being with most pre-stretched or low diameter lines I tend to find pulling them across the eye creates a weak point and you end up with snap-offs.

How low you talking?
I use Drennan double strength 7lb 0.205mm with normal eyes hooks (super specialist/Kamazan animal for method/specialist work or B911 to 0.165 for banded pellet.

Drennan double strength isn't to me pre-stretched. Reflo in sub 0.15 and similar types.
I've not had an issue with 0.15+ hooklengths tied using the knotless knot, but then again I always use bent eyed hooks.
