Holding fish between fingers and thumb...

When it comes to bream if I want to hold them vertically - which isn't often for photos but does occur sometimes when transferring them to the keepnet I always hold them from underneath rather than across the head.

Just behind the pectoral fins are a couple of lumps - lock your finger and thumb against them and there's no way the bream can be dropped - nor is any damage done.
Other fish don't have these handily placed finger-holds so unless they're small fish the photo will usually just be of the fish laid in the landing net at my feet.
