New to the forum and pretty new to fishing.

Due to our friend rona I decided this summer to do something ive been wanting to do and start out fishing.

Recently ive been fishing in a pond a stones throw away from my door and have been catching a number of what I believed to be roach.

Started to question the idea they were roach after talking to a bloke who was there when I had one on the bank and he was saying it doesn't look fully like a roach.

So any ideas if these are pure roach or if they have a bit of something else in them as well. Ive attached a few examples of these fish.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Doesn’t look like a typical roach, body shape and colouring of an ide but the eye and fins make it look more roach than anything else. What venue is it from?

It looks a little rudd-like for me - but would need to see the mouth to be sure.

Or maybe a roach-rudd hybrid?

One near the fire station? It’ll probably be an under nourished roach from there. Def not a Rudd the colour and body shape are all wrong

Nah, it’s a roach alright. Way too slender for there to be any Rudd in it. And over the years there’s been that many roach in those ponds it’ll just be a thin, coloured roach ... much of the year those ponds are quite clear water so you tend to find the roach will have a bit more colour than your usual roach

Agree, looks like a roach from the red eye, scale count along the lateral line and anal fin ray count....

Those last photos you’ve added seal it for me, definitely roach, they’re the same colour as the ones I get from damflask, and that’s very clear but peaty water
