It may even be a roach/rudd hybrid. Is there any history of orfe in this water?

Hmmmm

Wrong shape to be a rudd, wrong colouration for a carp and it certainly looks nothing like any orfe I've ever caught.

Congratulations Al - you've discovered a new species[:p] - all you need to do now is name it.

Actually my first thought when I saw it was it's some sort of goldfish hybrid but I'm not so sure now.

Must admit first looks say a small goldfish/hybride as Simon says.

Body is to big to be a rudd and looking at the mouth and tail it looks even more like a small goldfish/hybride.

Tail is totaly wrong shape for a rudd but more like a fantail hybride/

Just my tuppeny worth.[:D]

Hmmm, I'm not sure either.
But I'd go along with the Rudd, Rudd/hybrid thinking.
Good job you never posted it in Andy's name the fish competition eh?lol [:D]

Sorry to ask a 'daft' question, but what is a hybrid?

Are we talking - one species has sex with another species and out pops a new species?

Thanks

Not a daft question at all if you've never heard of it [:D][;)]

Well sort of like that, but I suspect rather than sex, its more a case of two species spawning in the same area who's genetics allow cross fertilisation. Say from Roach to Bream, which I believe is common.

The mouth detail isn't to clear,
(use the Macro facility on your camera Al, if you're going to try turning minnows into monsters[:D])
But first impressions are that it's a small Rudd.
If not,how about a Bitterling.[;)]

Peter.
