Have you ever bought something and wondered if you've made the right decision?

Fishing tackle related, not an engagement ring lol

I've bought a MAP Dual 6-8 Tube pole holdall to replace my falling apart old holdall - pretty pleased with it so far, but yet to take it out of the house.
My one concern was the top opening zip rather than a full length one, however the pole is in tubes so really not an issue.

Now having got the above I decided it would be rude not to buy the MAP Dual XL Top kit case to go in it replacing two rod tubes and adding a bit of extra tart'ness to my tackle.

I've got it, transferred my top kits to it, plus a cupping kit, and two landing net handles - basically the sort of stuff I would always get out when fishing the pole.
In doing so I've made three rod tubes redundant, (match kits x 4, power tops x 4, landing net handles x 2, plus a long match kit I used to store in my 16m section) are you with me so far?

However, I'm not sure having all my topkits together in the same case is the right thing to do. Plus the case doesn't open fully, the zips do but the rigid plastic doesn't fold back all the way.

It might just be me, having used tubes for eons, and now something new to get my head around and rebuild the comfort zone, but I've got nagging doubts.

Yup... bought a 14.5mt Drennan Target Carp pole... gave up match fishing a year later

I think it's the same with most new kit @Dave untill you've used n abused it a few times got comfortable with it. I've got a few rods I've bought and been disappointed with then others have exceeded expectations. Infact I'm nearly ready to sell a couple but only nearly.

Oddly enough... I bought some named and well known cane rods, yet found the no named bitsa's work better than the dedicated rods

I've a cane rod somewhere, I'll dig it out so you can tell me if it's worth anything Or what it was for. Got a feeling its a 6ft rod and from memory would of been for float fishing, but I'm sure I'll be corrected.

If its 6 feet it'll be for spinning or a short lightweight fly rod

Oddly enough Dave I have gone the other way so to speak, from using a Drennan Top Kit Case with a Drennan Pole Holdall to a tubes for the top kits in Preston 6-8 Tube holdall. At least with the tubes I can leave pole rigs attached so reducing my set up time.........well at least that's the theory.

I do wish I hadn't sold my Drennan pole holdall with my old pole now, although I wanted a larger holdall capable of holding more tubes.

Bought an Acolyte Plus feeder rod once based on a waggle and a natter with the guy in the tackle shop. Also bought some extra more sensitive tips for it as I thought the default ones were too heavy. Absolutely decent rod but I never felt comfortable with it. For me the butt was too long and kept catching on my upper arm . Then there was the odd creaking sound (spigots?) when netting a bigger fish. I sold it and bought a Browning Sphere rod - much happier

I’m never happy with luggage. Everything else is fine, but I chop and change luggage just about every year. I’ve had Preston, MAP, Matrix, back to Preston. All I’m really looking for is something that’s completely waterproof!

Bought a second hand Matrix seatbox, S36 l think and hated it. Binned it and pulled my old Spacey back out of retirement.

A youngs river specialist centrepin, looks great, but the rachet lever is far too stiff and hard to operate single handed.
May move it on....

I bought an Acolyte float rod, pre ordered after reading all of the press releases, must have been one of the very 1st ones to see the bank, fished with it a few times and realised I didn't like the action, thought about selling it on then the tip breakage issue on early models started getting a bit of publicity so didn't want to sell it to someone in the knowledge that there was a very high probability that it was from that very early batch, so it is sat in the back of the shed somewhere gathering dust

I feel that way about the Rive box I bought earlier this year, it’s a cracking solid bit of kit, but instead of loading in the back of the van, I’m sat with a cup of tea reading this, the thing is so heavy It puts me off, but I know when I get it in position it’s the best place to be for a days fishing.

Everytime I get a new bait bib or waistcoat the pockets just ain't in the right place, then the old one comes back out after being patched up for the umpteenth time, till they finally go to fishing clothing heaven. Then the new gear still feels a bit of a compromise, seemingly for years.

I think there just like that because of the mechanics of the adjustable rachet system.
