Prince Harry will not be sent to Iraq because of the "unacceptable risks", the head of the British army has said.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6663053.stm

Which opens up a whole can of worms.....

As a serving officer he should not get special treatment or consideration.

As a member of the royal family he should be protected from being
placed in harm's way.

If he doesn't go, how can he continue to command the respect of his
fellow soldiers?

And what about those 'non-royals' who have been sent to war and have
subsequently been injured or killed? It's not fair on them is it?

Should Harry go or not? - Should he remain in the forces or not?

No he should not go.

He would be the prime target in Iraq and that would put the men he commands in even more danger than they are now.

They should bring all the troops back.

If the press hadn't put detailed maps of every route he might patrol over there he might have gone.

He should have gone and the only time we should have been told about it is when he was back, killed or taken prisoner.

It's the press that has caused this and they will probably have him as a coward now for not going.

Mark274 has got it bang on in my opinion.

Or is this a double bluff, saying he's not going but really is?

if you join, you get what you get.i have concerns about the ethics of not sending him, they are all in harms way, would it not negate his position wherin social, militry, and most of all the respect of the country is concerned? i have the utmost respect for andrew, due to his actions in 82.what will harry have, and how will this decision affect him in the longturn?

Mark274 is 100% correct, the press have ruined Harry's chances of going to the front line and is not happy!!
If the press respected people and not publish private information to sell blOOdy newspapers we could get somewhere!
Right now Harry is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't!

the presses fault but i got to say it has to be one smart terrorist to be able to kidnap him really and to know where he was based they should of kept it a secret in the first place whether he was going or not then there would be no harm in it would there

if hes not going out there then what is his purpose in the forces?

he signed up along with every other person, he should be treated the same..!

its about time the royals started doing something useful.

Chrishowe425 - Harry want's to go, but the army has wisely decided not to let him, and he is disappointed! Just think for a minute - all those fighting with him would be under extreme pressure 24/7 because the press have told the Iraqis how, where and when he is coming.
Imagine the Kudos for the Iraqi who kills or captures him!

well if he wants to go let him go.

he gets killed its his own fault.

they need to stop bubble wrapping him and make him work like the rest of the soldiers.

Maybe he could wear his nazi uniform. That would confuse everyone.

I have respect for the bloke he wants to go but as others have said the press have printed full details of what his movements are to be. A friends daughter has recently come back from Iraq thankfully alive but I don't remember knowing a single detail about where she was when or doing what. It should be the same for them all. When a politition goes out there, the press write today who is it has been to seen the troops in Iraq and is now on his way home.

He's not going and i'd bet the lads who would have been by his side are well happy, because he'd have been a special target for the mad mullahs, and what a prize for them it would have been to have killed him, the Queens grandson and 3rd in line to the Throne.

I wonder if all the other forces personnel will get the choice after all they are in just as much danger regardless of their "Class or Social Standing" A bullet or bomb cannot tell the difference between a "Royal" and a "Commoner" and I would sugget, with respect, that this is the reason that the "High ups" have vetoed Harrys sojourn to Iraq.

Mind you it says a lot about how safe the government and the MOD consider Iraq is for a serving soldier a little over four years after GeorgeDoueblaya said "hostilites have ceased".

Our forces should be brought back from Iraq and Afghanistan as they have been on a "hiding to nothing" from day one. Let them (Iraqis and Afghans) sort out their own problems. Iran is supplying arms to the terrorist insurgents in both Iraq and Afghanistan and will continue to do so.The Iraq and Afghanistan turmoil will continue for years to come and have every possibility of becoming as bogged down and grid locked as the conflict in Beirut did in the past.

We dont want another "Vietnam" type conflict as they are totally unwinable and merely add more young men and womens bodies to the meat grinder of war. The Americans should realise this and we should heed the warnings of history and withdraw our troops. Maybe an all "Muslim" or Arab peace keeping force is the answer? Our presence is not wanted and our casulaties cannot be justified.
