My girlfriend had her handbag stolen from a supermarket car park yesterday afternoon. It was a distraction theft and her cards were used within 30 minutes. We spent all afternoon and evening yesterday trying to sort out cards, and accounts. It took 1 hour 15 minutes to get through to the Halifax stolen card reporting number! She was still reporting stolen cards at gone midnight. Today we have been trying to replace her phone and sim card.

The first point of the story is that when we reported it to the police, they said that this was a rapidly increasing type of crime, where gangs target women in supermarket car parks as they are loading their shopping into the car.

The second is that it scuppered my plans to go fishing today!

On some cars you have to double click the fob to unlock all the doors and just one to open the drivers door. This is aimed at those who want to get in the drivers seat without some hostile getting in the passenger seat. It also allows a woman to put her handbag in on the front passenger seat without it getting snatched from that door.

A friend had this trick done to her. They watch a woman with a handbag park then when she goes to the shop they park a car awkwardly to the rear so its difficult to manoeuvre out of the space. When she is looking to the right and going slowly in reverse trying to avoid the awkward car an accomplice opens the passenger door and nicks the handbag.
