I always tie my own and change my hook after 4-5 fish they are incredibly cheep compared with losing a fish, it would surprise lots of anglers just how easily hooks lose there edge and get blunt, just spend a couple of quid on a magnifying glass and have a look.

One of the most basic mistakes we all make be novice or experienced is we don't check the line and knots enough for damage.
See feeder/lead anglers on the Severn snag up or play a snagged fish, free everything and then cast straight back in without checking for damage.
It takes seconds and its crazy laziness really when you can be just fishing for only a few bites.

thanks all, i found the issue. Its the forceps damaging during unhooking, i managed to find a rig in my box that doesnt seem to have an issue. Or if anyone can offer examples of 'softer' forceps maybe?
