I know its a kinda of a daft question can you fly fish on a normal rod and reel because i have no money to invest in a centerpin and a fly rod at the moment.
im goin on fri/sat and some of you say fly is a very fun and effective method for trout. so can you all give me some tips please,,,,,
And im gonna invest in some mepps spinners i will of course need a wire trace because of pike.......
and what line should i buy i have a max of 20 squid for the 2 days fishing......
ANd of course i will need flys

Hi Gf

Yes it is a daft suggestion to try to Fly fish with an ordinary rod be it float or ledger.

Fly casting is achieved by the combination of balance between rod and fly line.

Where are you going as many trout fisheries will rent you adequate if not perfect fly tackle and this is possible the best way to start.

If you manage to hire tackle you will proably need to get a few flies. I would suggest you start with Montana and Viva. The Montana you would fish slowly to start, the viva would be retrieved more quickly, but this is a very general guide.Without knowing the water it is hard to give better advice.
