Hiya all,[:)]
does anyone remember the "fishing race" that was on telly a few years ago?

I was thinking, maybe we could have one for fun?

Just an idea but what if we could put up a list of fish, including the likes of sturgeon, grass carp, ide and then throughout 2003 every time you get a fish on the list you add your name next to it[?]

Maybe some sort of points system[?]

Off the top of me ed, I can think of 23 fish to have a go for.

Skimmer, bream, roach, perch, tench, common carp, mirror, leather, grass, crucian, chub, dace, barbel, gudgeon, sturgeon, moggy, golden tench, eel trout, minnow, pike, zander.

What do ya think, any ideas[?]

Ray.

Ray,

Do you have something against the humble Rudd? If all species of Carp are included we should include both Rainbow and Brown Trout.

Great idea I take it you will be the record keeper

Matt Hayes is re-running this essentially for a 15 show series on the Discovery Channel - Underwater Antics (showing in early 2003).

His version is called The Great Rod Race, and in it he and a guy called Mick Brown have to catch 32 different freshwater species in 30 days from waters in the UK and Ireland.

It's been documented to a certain extent as he's gone along in AT over the last few weeks.

For those who want to have a similar type event the species they identified are:

River - Barbel, Chub and Dace

Stillwater - Roach, Bream, Catfish, Crucian Carp, Grass Carp, Rudd, Tench, Orfe and Eel

Carp - Common, Mirror, Ghost, Wild and Koi

Mini-species - Bleak, Bullhead, Minnow, Stickleback, Gudgeon and Ruffe

Predators - Pike, Perch and Zander

Game Fish - Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, Sea Trout, Salmon, Arctic Char and Grayling.

I suspect it would take us all more than 30 days if we combined forces let alone did it individually. Still it beats just going for new PBs for those who've "been there, done that, got the T-Shirt".

Good idea Ray,

I could put up an extra forum and list all the fish as 'topics' then when someone catches one they can add their details into it such as weight, location, even a pic ?

What do you reckon?

thanks for the replys gents.

any ideas?

do we have it on some sort of points system, maybe 2 points if you catch one species, 3 points if you take a picture of it?

maybe there is a way we can have a chart? (i dont mind keeping scores?)

what about the list of fish? do we include the likes of salmon, as for quite a few they may be impossible to get access to?

teepee, that will be part of the fun, trying to find some of the fish.

just think, when you have caught all of the "usual" fish, i.e roach and tench etc, then ya can have some fun trying to find and catch the rest.

p.s. anyone know where i can catch a grassie??
