Fishing pole insurance

Anyone know if fishing pole insurance is available? I know you can insure your tackle, but to be honest my main concern would be my pole, against breakages and theft. I've done a search online and can't seem to find much. Anyone know anything about it?

I'm sure any big insurance company would make you a policy.

Hmmm, it would certainly be worth insuring a 1000+ pole against theft AND accidental damage, but it would have to be under 100 a year to be worthwhile. Might try the house insurance, they may cover it if I specify it is going to be used outside the house.

Best bet is probably to speak with a broker.

The problem with this type of insurance is that who is to say that you don't just break the pole and get the ins. Co. to pay for a new one. As a consequence premiums are likely to be high or they will :-

a, only pay for a replacement section
b, impose a high enough excess that you would have to smash the entire pole to get a new one.
c, only pay what the pole is worth (less excess) if bought second hand as with cars.

I've got my fishing kit covered by the same policy as my military equipment. Its with a company called Forces Financial, It's worth a look as I'm pretty sure they'll insure anyone.

Also to consider household insurance may or may not cover sports equipment if stored outside the house but would rarely cover it for 'bankside' breakages. There are specialised insurance companies out there that would cover all your tackle with special provision for the pole and any other individual items of high value, but these can be expensive.

I,m covered for up to 1000 pounds on my home insurance for sporting goods. As this wouldnt cover me for all my tackle to be replaced i have taken out a further 2 K of insurance with them on an extra sporting goods policy. This covers me for any eventuality and most importantly is New for Old cover. Having said that all my tackle is stored in the home (except keep nets lol)

Have claimed twice in 20 yrs or so (1 major, 1 minor) and they have paid out without any fuss whatsoever !!!

My pole is insured as a 'specified item'
