Not seen any of those! I'm not that good with British cinema. The African Queen is mentioned on the first list though.

Good river scenes in Apocalypto, The Emerald Forest and Ugetsu. Also all the films like Terminator and To Live and Die in LA that use the LA river (I used to think that was a storm drain!).

I'm trying to think of a prison escape movie where they have to run through a river to escape. Maybe one of the Alcatraz movies? Think they do it in Down By Law too but not thinking of that one.

I know that a lot of films have been partly filmed on rivers, but Carry on Jack was partly filmed on Frensham Great Pond just a dozen miles from where l live now.
It is also on my club book.?

Funny enough I was going to mention The Mosquito Coast as set in the Amazon! Turns out he's in Sneakers too, decent little comedy.

Think it was in the Virgin Soldiers that the scene with a native woman washing her clothes in the river was actually on the R Colne between Denham Green and Harefield

I never really liked Ken Russell films, found them pretentious but I was thinking of how he uses the Derbyshire countryside in some of his films and found this. It's set somewhere in Derbyshire so could be any number of rivers! Not really a great scene but has a British river at least... there's got to be plenty more with shots of the Thames for instance.


I should see Heart of Darkness by Nicolas Roeg as seen loads of films by him!

The famous sceen where the germans are discovered as one saves young girl and is killed by the water wheel revealing his german uniform
