I can never understand how the bow helps hold bottom.

Thinking dual feeder - two tubes - one with a cap and one open end.
its less pressure on the lead or feeder. How we did it was cast wait to hit the bottom then literally let out the same amount of line. Rod up high in the rest and rod will be bent at the tip. Along came mr chub picked up your hook bait, dislodges feeder, tip drops back, you wind like a crazy thing.

Only downside is when the trees are dumping their leaves , more line in the water creates a larger area for the leaves/debris to catch and a greater pressure build up.
