Scuse ignorance - but whats 'feathering' in respect of a waggler? Probably do it anyway but don't know terminology

It is when you cast, you gently put your finger on the line near the spool to slow the float down. If you do it correctly the hook should fly passed the float and enter the water first

Rather than casting and stopping your line abruptly, or just letting it fall in a heap under its own weight,
you gently apply pressure (or "feather") the line on the edge of the spool, slowing the float down enough to allow the shot and hookbait to stream out in front of your float.
This helps to avoid tangles and allows for better presentation of the bait on the drop.

so I can put my bucket of tar away then, i did wonder how i would keep it molten on the bank
