Hey everyone, I've just got a certificate through the post to proove that my car can do 50mph courtesy of the West Yorkshire Metropolitan Police and they've the cheek to ask me for 60.00 for it

I wouldn't mind but I never asked for it so do you think this constitutes junk mail ??

In my defence occiffer I thought it was a 60mph limit not 40mph

The best thing about it is:

If you were the driver of the vehicle at this time and:

You do not wish to contest the matter then it may be possible to deal with it by a Fixed Penalty of 60.00 and the endorsement of 3 penalty points on your licence by post without the need for court proceedings.
if you wish to contest this allegation in Court then you may do so.

The only thing is if you contest it and lose you are liable not only for their costs but the scale of the fine is then within 1000.00

, so I have been informed.

Effectively they are holding you to ransom and making it unviable to contest the Allegation

The use of GATSO's is supposedly to reduce casualties on the road by curbing speed, supposedly??
On the end stretch of the M621 coming into Leeds there are now 3 brand new cameras just as the motorway speed limit is reduced to 50mph and yet according to local knowledge there has never been an accident nor incident involving anyone let alone causing casualties. Is is just 'bad planning' that they have been put there or.......

Anyway here's an update:

I got a letter back off them (still waiting for the EA letters) and here's what they have to say

"Dear Sir

I refer to your letter and would inform you that I am not at liberty to provide the information requested.

If you request a Court Hearing, in relation to this matter, al evidence will beproduced at court.

Yours faithfully,

..................."


So a phone call to the legal bods later and this is what we have -

"The police even though it is only an allegation can offer you the option to buy yourself out prior to a court hearing (60 & 3 Points)
They are no longer required by law to submit any evidence to you prior to a hearing.
If you decide to take it to court, firstly you will receive a means test to evaluate your disposable income then at the hearing if you lose, which is invariable, you will then face between 3-6 points plus a fine of up to 1000 plus their costs !!!
Sod principals, think of your wallet and just pay it"
