eeeek fish disease

today i was fishing at woodlands, fishing the bread on the top and i caught a little mirrior, i was shocked to see that it had green hair!!! and scales were hanging off, i was very worried about this, i have searched the internet, cant find any info on this, as i thought it was a disease im sorry i never had a camera with me, but could someone please put my mind at rest and tell me weather its normal or it might be something sirus

Sounds to me like it has been handled badly in the past, missing scales etc, which has resulted in the loss of the protective slime. This then leaves the fish wide open to attack from all sorts.
Bearing in mind fish live and we fish in a bacteria soup the resulting infection could have been anything.
On our fishery we had a similar instance recently and sadly the best thing to do from a fishery management point of view was to put the fish out of its misery and reduse the risk of any possibilty of the infection spreading.
Basically fish aren't cheap and you can't take too many precautions
