Afternoon all,

Posting on behalf of my MIL, she has a nasty bit of bubbling on a patch of wallpaper in the kitchen.
Said patch of wall is directly below the bathroom extractor fan which vents horizontally through the wall.

Upon checking the vent one of the slats is stuck open whilst the other is closed.

Is it possible there could be rain coming in via the upstairs vent and cascading down the wall?

The house is a early 1900s terraced house, no cavity wall. There are no issues anywhere else in the kitchen just directly below the fan.

There might not be a cavity as such but there will still be a small gap between the inner and outer brick walls.

It sounds like water might have been blown into the open vent and if the hole in the wall for the fan isn't lined then the water could come down the gap until it hits something that directs it into the inner brickwork.

Look into the vents and see if the opening is lined up to the fan.
If not get a piece of soil pipe around 250mm to 300mm long, take off the louvre on the outside and slide the pipe in so it pushes onto the fan.
Cut the pipe flush to the outer brick face and refit the louvres.

Make sure the pipe is sloping down to the outer wall to prevent condensation running back into the bathroom
