i've joined a few online agencies and put my c.v. on line with them for prospective employers to look at. got an email from one company based in london offering me a job in my area manchester. they sent me an online application form to fill in the wanted all my details including bank details, presumably to pay my wages into.
i checked them out online they seem to be a bona-fide agency, but the email address i got differed slightly from the one shown. i asked them to send the application form through the post not heard anything since. maybe it,s me just being suspicious
i get so many emails telling me accounts i don't have have been hacked into and i need to reset my online password and some guy keeps wanting to give me millions of pounds if i just give him my account number.

Never deal with an "online" agency. A CV does not sell you, it is a tool for interview. A good agency or consultant should be picking up the phone and selling you to clients he/she has a relationship with - if all they are doing is emailing your CV it can actually negatively impact your chances of getting a job. If a client ends up with your CV from more than one agency they may well just bin it rather than get into a dispute over who has right of introduction.

Pick agencies that specialise in your field, in your geographical area and who want to actually speak to you. They certainly shouldnt be asking for or need bank details until you have actually got a confirmed start for a job, and even then they dont need it before you start as you will generally be workign a week in hand anyway and it takes 10 minutes flat for an umbrella/composite/paryoll company to get you set up and registered.

Yep - dead right
I'm on the books of about a dozen agencies - some are rubbish, some are half-decent but not one has ever asked me for any bank details.

Very clever fraud attempt IMHO. In amongst everything else you would get on an application form they sneak in the bank details questions. You are lulled into completing the form and so without thinking just fill in the details they need. I bet it catches a lot of people.
