My mum & dad never ever took me for a meal when I passed any exams. Mind you I never passed that many.

That said we never went out for meals anyway. I must have missed out on a lot that I didn't realise.....
I can remember my mum and dad taking us to a Berni Inn in the 70’s. We thought it was the height of sophisticated dining at the time.

Only meals I can remember going out to when I was a kid was a picnic.
Our meals out involved the whole family (mother. father and 4 boys) taking a bus from the village where I lived to visit my grandfather in Hastings on Saturday where my Aunty Em would cook us dinner, then we would have tea and a bus home in the evening.

The worst part of the whole day was mother insisting we go in the most boring shop (for a boy) on the high street (Marks and cowing Spencers) where she would chat (which seemed like) for hours to her friends when us boys would have nothing to do!!!! I still hate that cowing shop to this day and will never go in (ask the wife).
