Yup. If your raptor population comes back, you will have some cormorants but not enough to be a problem.

My favorite lake grew a pretty large population this past spring. Not enough to threaten the fish (lake is maybe 10 miles long and up to 1/2 mile wide in places) but there were a bunch of them.

By late fall, we had eagles and hawks that were fat and happy and lots fewer cormorants.

I just wish the blasted Canada Geese didn't wait until cold weather to show up. :( I think the raptors take a break for much of the winter.

hi
we do not get many on our river we started with 8 last season but although we use non toxic shot 4 ended up with lead piosoning
(well they would have done if they had have lived long enough after
the lead hit them).
best way to control ive found.

Toma Did the Hawk realy scare them off and if so have thay stayed away how often did your mate have to go back with the Hawk, I am asking because one of our club waters is being hit realy hard by black death and short of shooting them we cant get rid

Martin as much as I hate them and want to see them controlled, to actually admit to this will do nothing to further our cause.
May I suggest that this be deleted to protect the innocent.

Quote from Cormorasnt Busters " Not 1 case has been brought by the RSPB for illegally shooting cormorants".
They know its happening, but dare not highlight it as people would ask WHY? and learn the extent of the problem.
Anyway, I see no admission, just a suggestion! Proof would be needed LOL

Just what is the fine for shooting and killing a cormorant.
I have tried to find out the answer for this question on other forums but still don't know.

Hi all,

Dave here is the most comprehensive interpretation of the act that I can find on-line: http://www.naturenet.net/law/wca.html

The full title of the act is - 'The Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981' and the full version can be obtained from HMSO or online from here: http://www.the-stationery-office.co.uk/howtoorder.htm

I suppose shooting towards them isn't an offence, it only becomes one should you be such a bad shot that you accidently, not on purpose, inadvertantly hit one icon_smile_big.gif
