Its worth saying if you're waiting for bites like 30 mins the sticks are ideal, then you can unclip after casting. I fish a place for big bream and tench and clip up on the sticks all the time. But if I were say after big roach, small fish I'd do what's been suggested and sweep the rod back on casting, and leave the clip on. However if you watch "Rob on the Trent" he clips up on river, what he does with a big barbel or carp is hooked anyone knows? It's worth a look on You-Tube to see him in action.
