I've started driving lessons and also started looking at insurance. i know that it's sky high for boys my age due the boy racers etc. but it's absolutely scandolous. I can buy a car for about 500 for example and be paying 2000 a year insurance[xx(][xx(]

wait to you pass your test - still expensive but you are probably looking at around 1200. Shop around but my son had a decent quote off aviva

It might actually go up when he passes test, my son age 17 was paying 1890 as a learner, passed his test and is now 18, went up to 2016. Reason is he is more of a risk now that he has nobody in car supervising him. That basicly means he can put his foot down more often as there' nobody in car to stop him, more speed with little experiance increases chance of accident.

it certainly is and made a difference to my lads insurance to the sum of 210,well worth the investment

Ive done the pass+ and it has made no difference at all. Im insured on my mams car and for me its about 200 a month and thats for being a named driver. I use the car everyday and use it whenever i want, so its probably money well spent, but it is still way over the top. Wait till you pass mate and it will rocket. Its one of the reasons i haven't bought a car. Get a 206, corsa etc for 800 and then end up paying 2000+ for insurance, add petrol, services, MOT's etc

if you are just a named driver on your mums insurance i doubt it would apply,my son took out his own insurance and as it states SOME insurance companies give a discount of up to 40% for pass+ drivers.

What with the soaring costs of fuel etc I doubt ill ever be a driver. It doesnt make financial sense to me to even bother starting now. Im nearly 30 BTW.

My son takes his test next week, wew had him insured by quin direct at a cost of 900 for provisional driver.

guess what?the ba$tards have gone bankrupt on us!!

now when he passes his test we will not be able to get a refund on the last 6 months of his cover.
they will also not offer us a new policy for the remainder of the year, and all moneys will be lost!!
thats $450 up the swanny.

Here's a news quote:-

"A statement on its website says that anyone with an existing policy with the firm will not be affected and that its policies will remain valid."

So you should be covered until the policy is up for renewal.

therefore he will need to be changed to full insurance which quin can not do now.

Surely, a policy change is all that is required. There should be no need to cancel and start again!

is it any wonder that there are so many uninsured drivers on the road ? its cheaper to risk getting caught and having your 500 car confiscated and crushed that pay the premiums these pirates demand

It's a bit of an oxymoron, isn't it?

Premiums are getting higher, so the number of drivers who can't afford it and don't pay for cover is going up.

It's a problem of today's culture. You know, "where there's blame, there's a claim"! This American import is a great earner, which costs the insurance companies.

Plus there's the rear-end fraudsters.

What's the anwer? I don't know. But, we're all paying for it!

i got my test on monday and guess what time .... 13:13 ..... typical
i have heard that you can get insurance from this company... which i cant remember....
and the insurance is only valid between the hours of 6am and 10pm.... i heard its alot cheaper cause it discourages boy racers joining the company so you dont end up paying for them.....

I found that on a cheap first car fully comp is not required, i also found insuring a car on L plates cheaper than after passing.
Furthermore small cars cost as much to insure as big cars to insure such as my escort which costrs as much as my fiesta did.
