I've got a match on the local cut this weekend but i'm relatively inexperienced in this style of fishing.I wish to target small fish and the occasional tench gets caught on the stretch. The areas i think i should target are bottom of near shelf, bottom of far shelf and down the track however im not sure what baits to use and species to target in these areas. All help/guidance will be much appreciated.Cheers.

Don't get too complicated. Fish as light as you can for the conditions, try and fish away from any footpaths, and use natural baits, such as maggots, hemp, tares, worms and casters for the spearhead of your attack.

Squatt or/and pinkie over a dark groundbait mix (Roach Noire) bottom of near and a half a mtr up far shelf and very lightly fed casters across would be my banker. Clear canals are a different kettle of fish! punch a hemp coming into play. Keep it simple with light rigs and maybe a heavier one for if it tows.
