Have just seen that Cadence have launched a 12 FT Barbel rod in 1.75 Lb & 2 Lb versions - £149.99 each. There is a special launch deal, buy two for £250 here

Wish they had released it earlier I would have been tempted, instead of buying the two Korum 2 Lbs rods,

(Edit: length changed from 10ft to 12ft - Dave)

Ooops sorry Squimp It's been a long, long week. Work had taken it's toll and I was Compost Mentis.

It's worse than that Dave I hadn't had a drink

Korum rods are good mate, but as I have been very pleased with the other Cadence rods I own, it will be interesting to see what the reviews are like.

I did think that 10ft was a bit short for a Barbel rod, it would have had an action like a boat rod

This is interesting. I'm happy with the 1.75lb 11' and 12' Korum Rods I've got but think I'll be able to confidently put more of a bend in them with a 10lb hooklength than the 8lb hooklength I have been using, that's when I'll see more of the action to them, as they are stiff rods.

Barbel are well known for lunging, especially when you think they are beaten and they see the net, and you need that flexibility to absorb the lunge otherwise you will risk snapping off.
The same with the initial 'twitch' a sudden bite and the shock goes through the line to the weakest point and then 'snap' - if your rod has that initial flexibility it can absorb that shock far quicker than any reel's drag or clutch can

Yes I've learned to play with a very soft wrist on the Korum Rods, first 1.75lb rods I've owned so not much to compare them to but they do seem quite stiff, I also don't backwind so have to loosen the clutch when under the tip.

The thing to consider Scribe is they will be sat in the rests most of the time and will the additional cost of buying new rods actually be that much more beneficial than what you have got?
My Shimme XT Barbel cost me £80 when I bought it a few years ago and I have banked over a dozen double Barbel and four times that many double figure Carp on it. It's the only rod I have ever had that would upset me if I lost or broke it beyond repair.
Name and price are not always a guarantee that you are getting better than what you have learnt to use.

Not sure about the Purple blank. Look nice rods though.

Might be interested if they did a 2.5lb TC.

I'm thinking about some. Chucking 7oz on my Greys is a little more than a lob and I wouldn't want to break them. Something for the future.

Yes, I've seen them and I'm tempted. But without wanting to sound rude, because I don't mean to, they don't appeal to my "tarty" side. My sensible side would buy them, my tarty side wouldn't.

Hi, my names Arch and I'm a tackle tart. LOL.
