looking at getting a bmw m3 convertible,02-03 for around 11,000 -12,000, mileage around 60,000-90,000, is there any particular points i should be looking for.I would want S/Hist.and as much info from owner as possible.it is a minefield and a (biggish) risk buying any used car so if there are any specific points i should be aware of let me know my son is buying the car.

Hello pikey. Have a look at the honest John website. It's pretty good. User reviews and Honest Johns reviews.

when test driving it, make sure you give it a minute running at low revs 2nd or 3rd gear and about 20-30 mph.
i had a problem with my Bimmer that occurred in those circumstances. it was not very noticeable in mine, but you could just feel that it was dying then picking up very slightly. passengers could not notice it but i was driving and could feel it. took it back to BMW who changed a part in the exhaust system, something like a energy recyclers? would have been expensive if i had to pay.
i know it sounds daft, but put the rear window demisters on while the radio is on. mine threw up a load of interference and had to be rectified by BMW who said it was a common problem.

Also, check for the additional wing mirrors. They mustn't come with the car as standard.

Id get a specialist to check it over aswell mate. A few of my friends purchased 60000 + mileage cars and ended up paying a fortune to BMW getting things put right. It would have been better paying the extra to get one with less miles on. Also needless to say a Full BMW service Histor is a must but im teaching you to suck eggs now [:D]

Have you not considered a Vauxhall Monaro VXR 5.7 or 6.0lt V8, bullet proof and just as fast also im my opinion sounds much nicer. Thats my next Motor when i save up a few more pennys.

Don't listen to all those choppers BMWs are great...

However, are you aware what the real time about town mpg is with an M3? (E46)

I assume you have another car for fishing as 3 series convertibles don't have a boot, they have a rear glove compartment where the battery and cd changer live!!

My wife has one and the space is shocking in them. (she's selling hers, well I am) but it's not an M3 it's a 2L.
