Sad news that Benny Ashurst has passed away at the age of 88.

He was credited with developing the stickfloat and caster method that was to be so deadly on the Trent in the 60's & 70's.
One of life's true gentlemen,he will be sadly missed.

Peter.

Sad news indeed. I met Benny during the centre pin/fixed spool reel matches many years ago. A diamond in the rough.

The loss to fishing is immense.

I can remember reading a book a while back about Kevin Ashurst and the influence Benny had on him was amazing.Even after becoming world champion a man like kevin still had to ask benny for help on certain things which HE couldn't quite get right.

My thoughts are with his family at this sad time.

I would like to add my condolences, as a young lad growing up and fishing in the 70s, I bought what I called my bible (Match fishing with Benny Ashurst) when I read in the Angling times that Benny had died, it brought back many memories, especially of me sitting there reading his book over and over.
Benny will never die, he will always be alive In the memories of many an angler.
A very sad loss.
