I’m after a new pair of barbel rods for the River Trent to be paired with a couple of 4000 sized reels.

At the moment I have it narrowed down to the following 3

Korum 12ft barbel rod 2lb t/c
Sonik 12ft Barbel Rod 2lb t/c
Fox Eos barbel specialist - 12ft 2.2lb t/c

Any reviews/recommendations on these or indeed any other rods in a similar price bracket?

Are you fishing big flooded rivers?

2lb tc is pretty chunky

1.5 or 1.75 would be more fun to play fish on

It’s the Trent. I used to use 1.75lb but not keen on chucking 4-5oz or feeder about with 1.5lb.

Just looking at advice on the rods themselves rather than what test curve people choose to use.

Cheers

I use 2lbs TC on the Trent and I've just bought some 2'75lbs for the Tidal. Of those three, I'd think the Korums would be the better ones.

Cheers Arch.

Im a massive fan of Korum gear but had a twin tip that snapped clean in half on my first outing with it which has left me a bit put off. The rest of the stuff I’ve had from them has been ace though so maybe I should put that bad experience aside 👍

Lot of my stuff is Korum and I like it a lot. My main rods are Greys Prodigy Barbel, old rods and I bought then second hand, but I like them.

This one.

If you can find a pair of 12ft Greys Prodigy 2lb for the right price I'd grab those, have a pair myself and lovely rods, although I haven't had a Barbel over 3lb on them yet my dad had a decent lump 😀

Ifyou are going to use big feeders then I would start at 2lb TC and go from there.

I have some Harrison 1.75 rods (chimera) and I wouldn’t cast a 4oz feeder on them.....I use Chimera 3 (2.25) for heavy feeders And they are a slower action (deliberately).

There are 2 pairs of 2lb Harrison’s on eBay currently; no connection.

I was "Lobbing" this in to the upper Trent last year during a flood with my 2lbs. Not a nice experience

That is a scary amount of lead.

Where I fish I tend to quit when the river says I need more than about 5 oz.

It fishes better when there a "bit" on it. The peg I wanted was taken, so had to go in the only one left available. Awkward fishing. I'll be better equipped next season.

A ‘bit’ on maybe; not 200 grams worth !

The only time I’ve seen the Trent was going over a bridge on a train.
