It doesn’t make sense to have two different makes, as others have said, why not buy another MAP that is made on the same mandrel, so you have spares and the topkits will be interchangeable. To carry two poles that don’t interchange and two lots of topkits seems madness.

I had Daiwa’s for years, for me the Tournament is a great pole, but I have just sold mine and bought a Sphere, along with a power partner for down the edge/ fishing short, sections interchange and topkits fit, makes things a lot simpler.

Makes absolute perfect sense 👍I’ve got 2 Maver Signature 800 pros, fighting sections, for heavy duty work, all sections as back-ups, loads of top kits, the pole is equally as good fishing delicate winter rigs for F1,s etc, slapping shallow, catching big carp , etc

I had a 901 and used it at Viaduct, Todber and Stafford Moor. I never had any problems with it and when I compared it with the Daiwa Air it was heavier and stiffer, however it was also 0.5m longer and at 16m that 0.5m makes a big difference as many who bought the Daiwa Air XLS discovered.

Personally I'd buy a spare No 4 and the Map M20 Margin. All sections are interchangeable and if you need to fish down the edge it's super strong. At £300 it makes a lot more sense than buying another top of the range pole.

maybe try the 1001 map margin for down edge but aint sure the 1001 fits the 901 3g ? would the top kits fit?
No!!....Made on afifferent mandrel so section interchangability not possible.

Do as Dave says and get an M20 margin pole, as that is on the same mandrel, and if you want something stronger than your 901 to fish long, get a 701 or 801 2g used. or 3g versions new.
Then you will have great interchangability and loads of spares!!.

In my opinion not that much in all honesty. I had an original Tournament when they first came out. At that particular time I used to fish Hayfield a lot. Within 12 months the pole was creaking like a good un. My dad’s old Whisker was on its last legs so, I gave it to him as he was only pleasure fishing then. I bought an original ‘ all black ‘ Airity after that from Wickersley angling. It was a bit of a deal as my company had just wired they’re unit out. I had that for no more than 6 months. Nice enough in its day but, having been shown a Maver Elite 57 at Candy corner I knew it was time for a change. The Tourney is a work horse. It’s like a Ford escort. It doesn’t do one job particularly well it just does them without too much fuss. They do go soft quite quickly. I’d say quicker than any other pole but, I reckon you’d be hard pushed to break one. Would make a good back up pole if you had another Daiwa.
