Hi everyone

Following the thread I started here, I had a chat with the guys at Bankside Tackle and bought a TPAA permit.

Armed with my first freshwater rod, reel and tackle I headed to a small peg on the Avon at Tewkesbury last weekend and this bank holiday and I seem to be pretty much the best fisherman for tidlers haha

On the first outing I was using a 0.8g waggler with red and white maggots on a size 16 hook for the first trip and caught lots and lots of what I think are bleak? And a little perch which I was chuffed with! It was lots of fun getting used to the light tackle and trying strike on the bites.

Then yesterday, on bank holiday Monday, I ventured out to the same spot. Using the red and white maggots again I tried a heavier 1.6g waggler and after I trod on it with the excitement of catching a little Rudd! I then moved to a 2g loaded waggler as the river was deeper than last week and had quite a flow too! I am really looking forward to heading out to the severn side of the area, but will venture to a wider side of the Avon first I think. I am going to progress to feeder fishing too at some point for those bigger fish in the Severn.

Finally some pics!

Nice going

your second bleak looks more like a dace ... other than that spot on.

Thanks both!

The camera is the one on my phone, I'm definitely happy with the details on the pictures. I think it helped that both days were lovely and sunny.

Some nice pictures of some pristine tiddlers (y).

The bream is a silver bream as opposed to a young common/bronze bream (aka skimmer)?

So I had another expedition to the same spot today. It seems that every perch on the avon was at my spot today! I caught 12!
The two largest were these. 20200906_130045.jpg

Lovely perch pics there, such proud looking fish aren’t they!
They are! I'm really enjoying the river fishing and I think perch are my favourite at the moment. They put up a little fight too! I caught the little perch on a 16 hook and a couple of red maggots. I then swapped to a size 14 and 4 red maggots and started catching the bigger perch!
