Just wondering why the Asp, widespread throughout Europe, has never been introduced to UK waters? Looks like a Chub on steroids and is happy in stillwaters and slow rivers.

Can reportedly grow to 20lb+

Our waters are rife with Zander, Catfish and some Sturgeon so bit bemused as to why we have no Asp :D

They are an interesting species and have a big following in Europe but I cant see the EA sanctioning a stocking of another predator with the potential disaster to natural stocks posed by the illegal stocking of the other alien species across the river systems of the country.

The EA's stance on foreign introductions and imports has got much tougher over recent years. I suspect that there's no chance of anyone stocking them legally now. I suspect that if the introductions of zander, cats and sturgeon didn't pre-date the tougher stance, there'd be no chance for them either.
