Fished the river weaver today, the first time in a couple of years, a bit of a waiting game before the first bite, but ended up with 8 chub all between 2lb and 2lb 8oz all caught on the stickfloat with single maggot as hookbait, very simple tactics. Rod was a 15ft drennan ultralight, coupled with an old abu 1044 from the collection.
Will have to return soon, and its the nearest venue to where l live so even better.
Rubbish pics though.

That's a cracking net that, Phil. Which stretch was that? Never had a chub from the Weaver before....just roach, bream & gudgeon.

That’s the thing with winter river fishing aside from the mild spells. Those tactics of trotting maggots in the summer and autumn or a mild winter spell would mostly get you silvers but come a cold winter those silvers won’t be feeding much and/or shoaled up somewhere else thus leaving the chub free to do their thing 👍🏻😉

The Weaver is a funny river. A lot of it is canalised.....very wide & very deep with little flow. Used to fish it regularly on club outings & winter leagues. However there are some more natural stretches upstream where it's like a proper river.

Well....that's my planned session off the cards. Just limped the car into a garage at 1mph, with a message reading "Engine Malfunction". :(
Could have been worse....might have happened on the motorway tomorrow on the way to a hospital appointment.
