Hi angling friends,

Caught this yesterday at Pool Bridge Farm in York. I'm a tad confused as to what it is...I think it's probably some sort of hybrid, but then maybe it's an Ide. When it came to the net I thought it was a Roach or a Rudd and I nearly fainted! Nice fish whatever it is, weighed 2lb 6oz.

Cheers, Alan

PS Caught on floating bread, believe it or not!

Looks like an ide to me but possibly with a bit of hybridisation of some sort.

Thanks Silverfisher, it's a surprise if it is because I didn't think there were any in the lake I was fishing :p

Can I ask .... Did it have some mouth damage ? Personally I would say it was a Ide. Quite a bit darker than the Ide I catch on our waters. More of a chub coloration.

I'd say almost certainly a big Rudd and one of the biggest I've seen

I’ve never caught an ide -but having googled it, that’s what I think it is.

unfortunately it’s nowhere near a true rudd.

Cheers Squimp, I've caught a few Ide myself, but they looked nothing like that.

Happy to stand corrected on the ide; but it certainly isn’t a true Rudd either.

somebody must know whether ide can hybridise with Rudd ?

You may well be right, Squimp.

My thoughts when I landed it were, "Biiiig Roach...wait! Rudd?? No!! Hang on a second...?" That train of thought has continued on into this morning as you can tell :ROFLMAO: At least there was no doubt about the carp that preceded it!!

Just found a post on ano forum from Andy Nellist ; top specialist angler and he was on the BRFC committee (he may still be) Confirming that Rudd/ide hybrids are possible.

Mark Wintle Should be able to help too.

100% an ide, some big ones in pbf. I’ve seen one weighed in a match there that went 5lb 9oz, the lad had a 3lb plus perch in the same match!!
