Nearly lost a rod at Gold Valley when taking the kids fishing. Youngest got bored and left his rod on the floor with the method feeder empty and the hook and bait just under the water while I helped the older one unhook a fish. Fish took his bait and nearly took the rod with it

Another one is don't leave your hook bait on while your top kit is not in use as the ducks and geese have been known to run off with your top kit once hooked with disastrous results.

Well done on third place Neal and the bonus barbel, think I might try that tactic on the Trent. :D

I am guessing that had you been on the pole the hook wouldn't have been in the water after you un-hooked and dealt with the carp, if it had the barbel would have made off with it, feisty little beggars they are.
