1879 - Thomas Edison invented the electric incandescent lamp. It would last 13 1/2 hours before it would burn out.
1858 - The Can-Can was performed for the first time in Paris.

Yes it's a day of memories, Trafalgar Day was always a cause of remembrance for RN & RM personnel.
Those poor children at Aberfan would have been my age now, I still remember my Mum & Dads face's when I insisted we went down there after the funerals so that I could pay my resepcts,

Even though Englishman Charles Swann had actually invented and patented the incandescent light bulb ten years earlier. Edison was one of life's plagiarists.
I think you will find it's
Sir Joseph Wilson Swan FRS (31 October 1828 – 27 May 1914)

I think you will find Thomas Edison did not invent the electric incandescent lamp he only patented it in 1880 the real inventor was Warren De La Rue.

Fixed that one for you

And of course it wasn't him but the staff at his company. Edison was no "mad scientist" working alone. He had a large business with monthly and weekly targets set for the number of patents for new ideas or improvements to existing ones. He was first and foremost a businessman.
