Nottinghamshire Police press release

A top all-round angler is calling on others with a passion for fishing to help the police trace thousands of pounds worth of equipment stolen from his Nottinghamshire home.

A collection of top of the range tackle, including rods, reels, nets and more than 2,000 wet and dry flies, were taken from the house in Crescent Road, Selston, last month.

The burglary took place some time between 1.20pm and 6.15pm on Friday 14 October. Also stolen was a fully-stocked Fox tackle box, holdalls and kit bags.

Among the most treasured possessions taken were two fly fishing rods made by Sharpes of Aberdeen and three Free Spirit branded carp rods.

Owner Chad Critchley said: It has taken years and thousands of pounds to put together this collection of equipment. Aside from the cost and the time invested in it, other anglers will know there are also fond memories attached to each rod.

It may be that whoever stole the kit knew that I had it or had perhaps seen me unload it from my car and got lucky. So far my own enquiries and those of the police have not traced the offenders or the equipment, but I would be very surprised if someone is not trying to sell this kit on.

My message to fellow anglers is that if you have been offered or hear of anyone else being offered angling equipment that you suspect may be stolen, please contact the police immediately. I would also urge them to take particular care when transferring their own kit from the car to the house and vice versa, and ensure they do it either undercover or be aware of anyone who may be watching at the time.

A Chris Boardman CB mountain bike and electrical items were also stolen in the burglary.

Anyone with information about the burglary or the whereabouts of the stolen equipment should telephone DC Neil Allsop at Nottinghamshire Police on 101 ext 804 4737 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Hmm - a bit near home. As stated a life time's memories gone.
Given the quantity seems they needed a tarnsit or trailer.

Theft not been reported through any of the local police alerts I get covering Hucknall or Mansfield but may be covered by Derbyshire area.

Scum bags

Probably a lot more he has not listed.
It happened to me years ago, It is not untill you get back to fishing the list grows ever longer of things you forgot.

Sadly I went through this scenario back in february and initially you remember large items that you had, then when you sit and analyse each style of fishing and the tackle you used for it you build up this type of Comprehensive list. I was more fortuate, they didnt get my Rods or Pole, but seatbox, reels and holdall plus all contents still came to 1600.
Really feel for this bloke as undoubtedly some of this is irreplaceable.
I'd also bet its never seen again!

Poor Bloke thats is one heck of a lot of gear to lift they must have known he had that amount of gear.
Problem is with that amount of value I bet his insurance will be on the defence and want receipts for everything! which I doubt he still has.

When you read distressing posts like this sometimes I can begin to understand the middle easts belief in amputation.

Making the punishment fit the crime, I think we are now to far down the road of anarchy, lack of respect, and oppurtunist crime with complete disregard for others to ever find our way back. [:0] [V]

I feel so sorry for the guy who's gear got stolen.... even if they find the thief, if he has already sold gear on, he will probably just get a slap on the wrist and be told not to do it again.... PC brigade gone mad.
Looking at the detailed list, surely some of that will be noticed by people who fish around the area or who deal on the likes of e-bay... hope the toe-rag gets caught.

the thing is once this has happened to you for at least a year later you remember some item , small or big that you havent got and its a constant ongoing process replacing things you have lost.

Crikey! what position to be in! thats awful.
I have recently had to go through my tackle and make note of the values etc for my insurance, since moving to a new house we have less room and my missus will not allow me to store the gear in the house, so i rebuilt the old out building and fitted a solid redwood door and 3 locks, i initially said to the insurance 5000 +/- 400 or so, however once i went through it all... 8383 minus the bits and bobs added since, IE floats, hooks, lines and baits. It was a right mare trying to get them to cover me! For me, they never asked me for recipts, albeit most of my gear isnt that old... not many tackle shops give decent recipts to keep anyway.

I would imagine with a list like this, he would have had it covered on the insurance, i just hope he can get it sorted!
