I wonder if a fantastic player and European Cup Winner like Archie Gemmill would make it in the modern era where physical stature has become such a requirement?
I wouldn’t say physical stature is as important as some think in the modern game, in fact I think it’s that way of thinking that has held back England progressing with the likes of Spain/Germany.
Spain won 2 world cups and a euros with little magicians like Xavi, Iniesta, David Silva.

Manchester City have built arguably one of the greatest teams the PL has seen and they aren’t a team full of physically gifted players just exceptionally technically gifted and hard working.

I wholeheartedly agree and wish more managers would focus on footballing skill above physicality.

Hey Bulldog I remember some of those players, and very good they were too. Where did it all go wrong?

No big Cyrille Bulldog?
And I tell you what mate, the FA Cup Final win in 1987 is still probably the neutral fans all time favourite win/game.

It all went wrong when the then chairman sold Highfield Road, and the new stadium fiasco, i think cyrilles best years were at WBA if you watched him week in week out at Coventry he was frustrating at times saying that he played a huge part in the cup success,

The Flying Pig! Despite being a Blue I always held Tommy in high esteem.

Hmmmmmm. Best is the only player in that selection that played for a Man Ure team that was relegated!
I was there that day at St Mary's, which ever had won would have stayed up. It was a draw and we both went down. Still a warm feeling remembering the utd not taking it very well. :giggle:

Pretty much my chosen line up as well. I hope you mean Terry Curran's loan spell though & not when he came back.....he was bloody awful the second time around.

TBH I thought he was so so all the time at Everton and he was only included as a sub as a passing nod to the hair styles of the day. Seem to remember him coming on as sub against Watford at Goodison in 1985 and his first action was to stand on the ball and fall over, much to the crowds delight.
