I have 2 rescue dogs - one is a Chihuahua and the other a Shih-Tzu/Toy Poodle Cross (making her a shitzpoo... yes... that's what's on her paperwork). When we decided that we wanted a 2nd (the Chihuahua), we joined the Facebook pages of loads of rescue centres, and waited for the right dog to come up. Eevee was 7 months when we rescued her (she's now 3 and a half) and Zorro was 4 the day we adopted him. A fraction of breeder prices and rescued animals. Win/win. Our previous dog, and cat before that were also rescues. IMG_5186.jpg

It's all the idiots running out and buying Covid puppies to keep themselves and their kids entertained over lockdown driving up demand and therefore prices

Give it a few months and there will be loads of unwanted 6-8 month old pups on the market

Good Boxer pups are now going for £2k + each, it's ridiculous.

Winston's crown jewels could end up being in my pension pot at this rate :)

My partner is part of a group who rescue and rehome dogs, primarily Lhasa Apsos. All of the money raised to buy and provide vet care is through the groups members raising money or making donations and they travel all over the country.
Quite a few have been used to churn out litter after litter until their bodies are ruined. Others have been beaten and abused, the state of some of them is heart breaking. Sometimes the owner has died or has to give them up which can be almost as bad especially when they have been together for years and suddenly their owner is no longer there.
That's why we have now got 4 dogs, 2 of which have "issues" but are really loving (unless you're a postman in which case Katie will shred anything coming through the letter box lol)

I heard a bit on radio yesterday but not all of it. Someone has started a online thing to highlight puppy’s etc coming from abroad. They been selling some for £5000 and the fine if you get caught is £1000 so you can see why they do it.
Also in covid times the rules/laws have changed and you can meet and pick a dog up at a “safe place” where law was you had to see the mother and breeding facility’s etc.

There are tens of thousands of desperate dogs at rescue centres across the country, I am sure that you could find one to your liking.
It is only because people are prepared to pay stupid prices for so called pedigree puppies that so many dogs are used as breeding machines and then discarded. We currently have five rescue cats and, at the moment just one rescue dog, as one died recently. We are looking for an older dog now as we wouldn't want a puppy that could easily outlive us and end up homeless.
We have had eight rescue dogs over the years, most from terrible backgrounds with a history of starvation and abuse, and every single one of them have turned out to be fantastic pets.
Rescue, not Retail

Lets just say that when I opened a thread with the title 'Puppies' I was a little disappointed to find it was about dogs!

Have you looked at the Blue Cross? I did work experience for about a month with a student at one of their sites. They will train and socialise their dogs before they are re homed.

The problem is that some people don't do a lot of research.

This puppy at the centre, when we were there, was only a few months old.

For some reason the owners, who paid a few grand for it and only kept it a couple of weeks, didn't realise that it was a Caucasian Shepherd Dog and was going to turn into this.

I'm not in the market for a dog. However if I was Ruby would have been coming home with me, a stray from Ireland.

We have contacted the association about this guy, but it seems that there are a few that would like him.
If offered, I would take him like a shot
