@Barbelcatcher Sigma said they no longer support this model they said, and I quote...

going to try an independent firm... one in Chelmsford are going to call me back later...
Do you know arry, I'm sure I used that bloke in Chelmsford, to repair the ribband on a Canon zoom L lens. It's not beyond DIY, but I thought with it being an expensive bit of kit, I'd better not risk it. He charged me £90, and it came back perfect.

Nice lens there Arry.
My wife is a photography buff, but is not interested in the kit aspect (all about the moment and the composition for her).
so I tend to research the tech side (with my limtied knowledge).
I find this site quite useful
